“How Do I…?” – Send Myself a Text Message Using Control4
There have been a few requests for this, so here you go!
Do you have your Control4 system sending you emails when certain events take place? While having Control4 send me email when certain things take place, with how active my email accounts are I don’t always stay on top of them. On the other hand, my text message volume is much easier to stay on top of, and I am probably going to see a text before an email so having important things sent via text message sure is nice. This writeup will not only cover how to send you things via email if you aren’t already, but help you send things as text messages also.
So, how do you do it? Well, the first thing you need is an active 4sight subscription. 4Sight is the service that allows you to login to your system remotely, and have the system send you email notifications. In Composer, under the Agents tab, you should have an agent called “Email Notification”. If not, simply click on “Add”, add the agent to your project. Once it is there, create the message you want to send. Now, to get it to you as a text message you’ll need to send it to your cell phones email address. Not an email address you check from your phone, but the email address your wireless provider has assigned to your mobile number. While I don’t have a complete list here, I think I have covered pretty much all the US carriers. If I don’t have your carrier listed, google it or call your carrier.
Alltel: [10digitnumber]@message.alltel.com
AT&T: [10digitnumber]@txt.att.net
Nextel: [10digitnumber]@messaging.nextel.com
Sprint: [10digitnumber]@messaging.sprintpcs.com
T-Mobile: [10digitnumber]@tmomail.net
US Cellular: [10digitnumber]@email.uscc.net
Verizon: [10digitnumber]@vtext.com
Virgin Mobile: [10digitnumber]@vmobl.com
I’ve got Verizon, so mine is 8015554433@vtext.com. Keep in mind, you want to keep the message short or you’ll get a whole bunch of messages everytime, as text (SMS) messages are limited to 160 characters.

Now, under the Programming tab, in the Device Actions pane, you can scroll down to Email Notification and place the command line to “Email Notification to ’8015554433@vtext.com’ with subject as : ” into your programming.
Any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments or do so in the thread found here at C4Forums.com.
Enjoy!
