“How do I…?” – Easily access coverart selection of media
One of the selling points of the C4 interface is the ability to consolidate your media, and view/call it via the cover-art selection screen. Many DVD changers and media servers are supported via a 2 way driver and work seamlessly through this interface. But what happens after you are done with that movie, and want to start another movie? You are now in control of the device playing your movie, and the guide buttons either does nothing (as it did with my 400 disc Sony Blue-Ray changer) or takes you to the menus of the device playing the media (as it did with my Netgear 9100 Express). These aren’t always as pretty, or as intuitive as the C4 cover-art screen. Also, this will tend to confuse the non-power user (such as my kids). It can become a little button intensive to return to the cover-art screen. Here’s a way to tie a single button to get your there.
Unfortunately there isn’t a built in command in ComposerHE to take you directly to the cover-art screen. What we will be doing is creating a macro which will do all the button presses for you. Some have called this a little “hackish”, but it works flawlessly. The button presses happen so quickly that I don’t even see it. This is because of the few seconds it takes to switch the video source. In fact the button presses were happening too quickly, and the controller couldn’t keep up. This is the reasons for the pauses.
Here’s a good time to make a backup of your project. Get in the habit of doing it before you do any programming. You will thank me later. Now back to the info.
1. Select programming section (bottom left)
2. Select the desired room (tree in top left)
3. Select ‘Commands’ (middle left)
4. Pick the button to map
4. Reproduce the commands below (in the middle pane)
That’s it. You may want to attach this to your guide button if it isn’t already mapped. If it is mapped, remember you would lose the existing functionality. Maybe this tip deserves a global position with one the colored buttons (or */#) on the remote. Hopefully the next Control4 remote will have a dedicated button, until then this should keep the family happy!
