ControlUI App for iPhone and iTouch to see significant price drop, iPad version cheaper than imagined (updated 4/6/2010)!
So, let me prefice this with one thing. I don’t want this site to be focused around news and rumors, but this one is big. I just got back from a busy day of running around with the kids and found a message from one of my connects that I thought you all might find interesting. It looks like the ControlUI license for iPad will be available on Monday (April 5th) and it’s got an MSRP of only $99! Additionally the license for iPhone, and iPod Touch will reduced to $99 effective on Monday as well (sorry to those that shelled out $300…I guess being cutting edge carries a price).
This is huge. This means that for $598 ($499 for the iPad 16GB and $99 for the ControlUI App) you’ve got yourself a slick wireless touchpanel with a beautiful 10 inch screen, and the ability to use it for all the other things the iPad has been hyped about. I was not too excited about the iPad initially, but I’ve got to tell you this new ControlUI app is slick and a bargain at $99.
Any bets on how soon the Control4 7″ WiFi touchpanels will start flooding ebay and craigslist? My bet is sooner rather than later….
So, are you going to get one?

UPDATE: It has been 100% confirmed that the existing Control UI app as we know it (currently only available on iPod Touch and iPhone) will be available for Android, Blackberry, iPhone/iPod Touch and will be include with your 4sight subscription which will see a price increase from $99/yr to $9.99/mo ($120/yr). The other big news here is that there is not a limit to the number of devices you can have in your project. Is this an improvement over the existing $299 per license? I sure think so. Note that the iPad is not included with the $9.99/mo 4sight subscription, it will be available with a $99 MSRP.

How does this jive with the previous reports of unlimited devices for a mobthly service?

Scott…that’s a good question. From what I can tell, they are still going to have a $120/yr. 4sight subscription that includes some sort of navigator optimized for smartphones. From what I can tell it will be for most/all “smartphones”, which leads me to believe that it will be a webpage optimized for mobile browsers. This is largely speculation on my part, but I think what will be included with the $120/yr. will basically be a glorified version of what we have now (web navigator) with a nice UI that is optimized for mobiles.
The $99 MSRP to license ControlUI for iPad and iPhone/iTouch is 100% confirmed…that brings it back down to reality. $300 was just too much IMO.

Here’s what my dealer (CyberManor, Log Gatos, CA) told me about pricing
Q: I hear that there has been a price drop on the iPhone/iPad Mobile Navigator license, to $99 or so. Can you confirm and if so I’d like to get it for my iPhone.
A: GVZ – You are correct – the price of the iPhone/iPad Mobile Navigator license has dropped to $99.
Q: If that’s the case, what mobile device functionality is going to be rolled into 4Sight subscription with 2.0?
A: GVZ – The new 4Sight subscription will include client licenses for iPhones – but you have to renew that annually to keep your iPhone client license active. No firm price on this 4Sight subscription has been set on that yet.
Even with the 4Sight subscription you will have to pay a separate $99 fee for your iPad license.
Q: Is it expanded Web Navigator access from any browser, desktop or mobile? And as such is separate from iPhone/iPad license fees?
A: GVZ – Yes, the web navigator is accessible from any browser, desktop or mobile device. The desktop browser is free, the iPhone license is $99 when purchased without an annual subscription, and the iPad license fee is $99.

When does this start? I have multiple iPhones that I’d like to register….

It starts as soon as 2.0 drops, and that date is yet to be determined (as I am sure you’re aware).

Hi, Future C4 owner here. (Apologies in advance for my ignorance, but I am very interested in this topic and have some questions.)
I am interested in controlling my future system with my iPhone, my wife’s Blackberry, a yet-to-be-acquired iPad and my old iPhone (which will be relegated to wifi-only operation when my new iPhone “4″ arrives).
From what I can gather, it sounds like I would have previously had to shell out $299 per device. If I am reading this correctly, it will now be $99 for unlimited devices? Is this separate from or in addition to the 4Sight subscription service?
When will this be available (if it is not already)?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
