Can C4 really be DIY?
The answer is technically NO, but keep reading. Control4 is a dealer installed system and requires use of tools that are only available to licensed dealers, to get the system functioning and to perform a few key tasks such as adding/removing devices. Now that said, the key to this whole thing is the right dealer. Most dealers are not at all interested in having the end user (you) do anything other than say “yes sir” and write checks. In all reality, there are plenty of capable users how are more than able to do the physical installation/cabling of the equipment, and actually might even enjoy it. I fall in to this category. If you do to, you need the right dealer to work with you on your Control4 project. That dealer is AVIT Technologies. Rich and Jim at AVIT Technologies are extremely knowledgeable in the home automation and A/V industry. They can easily work with you determine your wants and needs in automation, discuss what equipment is required, what cabling is required and go over your skill/comfort levels. They can be as hands on or hands off as you want. Some clients work in the traditional “Home Automation” model and simply pay AVIT to make what they want happen take place. Others, like myself, like to discuss their wants/needs with a knowledgeable expert, establish and infrastructure and do it yourself. This is the basic principal of sweat equity.
If you’re interested in utilizing Control4 but are turned off by the required dealer involvement, if you want to have a hands on experience and learn a few things in the process or have any automation needs in general AVIT, do yourself a favor and call Rich or Jim at AVIT Technologies. It won’t cost you anything other than a few minutes of your time, and the potential upsides are huge. You won’t be disappointed. You can call them at 203-951-3030, or email info@avittechnologies.com.
